Karyn’s Talk: Plans

This is a pretty popular verse, but many people don’t know that it was written for a specific group of people:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
-Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

But here is a longer passage that reveals some more context.

“This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
-Jeremiah 29:10-14 (NIV)

Karyn shared her story about her childhood, her relationship to her biological father and her stepdad, but didn’t have a model of a “daddy” to understand a loving close relationship. She started to seek God and explore and ask questions of different religious representatives. She started a habit of lying, even unnecessarily. She started dating and seeking love in relationships with boys, and she ended up in a position where she felt trapped and was abused. She started seeking again and was pretty involved in the Mormon church. She met this guy at work who asked her about her church and they discussed faith and the Bible. Eventually she discovered that she couldn’t believe both things and decided to become a Christian. Later on she and this guy (Ezra) started dating, and going to church together. God has a plan for us, don’t let your plans derail or delay His plan in your lifetime. You are invited to adopt God’s plan for your life.
