Ezra’s Talk: Two Things

““Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”

How can you keep falsehood and lies far from you? What is the difference between these two things? What would it look like to keep falsehood far from me?

How can you avoid poverty? How would you define poverty?

How can you (why would you) avoid riches? How would you define the type of riches this Psalmist is wanting to avoid?

How can you honor God’s name? What else could we get associated with that might/could dishonor God’s name?

““You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
