Scripture References:

  • 1 Corinthians 13:4 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”
  • 2 Timothy 3:1-8 ESV “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people”
  • Proverbs 10:11 “The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.”

Conclusion: God is not cool with abuse. He’s also not cool with us just hiding it and taking it. If we really love someone, we won’t let them continue to abuse us because it’s bad for their soul as well. If God doesn’t want us to sin because it harms us and separates us from him, then allowing someone that you love to abuse you isn’t the most loving thing for them.
