Ezra’s Talk: The Future

Story: Sometime around when I was a kindergartener through first or second grade, I walked to elementary school every day. On my way to school a dog barked through a broken fence and sometimes it would break out and chase me, barking and trying to bite me. I would sometimes cry and I would just hate walking by that fence. My dad walked with me to school one day and showed me that the dog was very small and not as strong as me, it was just very loud with all of it’s barking. He told me that if the dog tried to bite me I could even give it a kick to show it that I wasn’t afraid (even though I was). Looking back, I don’t know if I would recommend that as the wisest or the best course of action, but as a small scared child, it was empowering to know that I didn’t really have to be afraid, and that my fear (coupled with my imagination) was a bigger obstacle than the barking dog.

What is scary to you? What makes you worry? What makes you feel safe?

God cares about you and your life. God wants you to listen to His dreams for your life. There is a better life for you within His plan, but you need to trust God to get there.

Perfect love drives out fear. God is the source of perfect love.

“If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.”
