Cyndi’s Talk

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 NLT

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Typically in a discussion we do, it’s about figuring out what is right. When someone preaches, it is encouragement to do what’s right. Tonight, I want to actually just practice what is right. Praying for others is something you may not be comfortable with, so I’ll be doing some guiding.

I’m going to break you up into groups and each group is going to ask for a prayer request, have something they want to thank God for, and I’ll give you an authority figure or category to pray for and I’ll give you a suggested format you could use for prayer.

First, you’ll want to state who you’re talking to, which is God/Jesus. Secondly you’ll have a prayer request for yourself or someone in your life and then also for the authority, thirdly you’re going to thank God for something, and lastly you’ll end the prayer. I very traditional ending is “amen” which is “so be it” or ” I am in agreement”.

If no one in your group wants to pray out loud, you can set a timer for like 2 minutes and everyone can pray silently.
