Thought exercise: Imagine standing in line to get in to a concert you are very excited about seeing. Which artist (or band) do you imagine this is? You see someone walking to the front of the line ahead of you, how do you feel about this? Now that person turns around and reveals that they are the artist or musician you were looking forward to seeing. Now how do you feel about them going ahead of you?

Read John 1:15-18
“(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”) Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”

We have all experienced some grace.

What have you experienced that is good today? Or this week, month, or year?
(from God’s provisions and our physical needs being met)

Jesus replaces that grace with unmeasurable grace that is even better than what we can experience in the physical world alone.

Can you think of a few examples of grace that Jesus offers which is beyond our physical needs or wants?
