Ezra’s 12/3/2019 Discussion: Rest & be refreshed

What is your regular work?

When do you rest?

How do you rest?

How is your rest different from the rest of others?

How and when can you tell if you are not sufficiently rested?

“And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”-Genesis 2:3 (NIV)

” ‘There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the Lord.”-Leviticus 23:3 (NIV)

” ‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.” -Leviticus 26:2 (NIV)

Why do you think God would make it a commandment to rest on a specific day of each week?

Why rest is important for runners (39 second) video:

“Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him away. Then he asked them, “If one of you has a son or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull him out?” And they had nothing to say.”-Luke 14:3-6 (NIV)

Prayer: “Dear God, thank you that you modeled rest for humankind, and made it a required practice to stop from our regular work for one full day each week. Help us to practice that and to recognize that striving to squeeze more tasks into each day is not what is best for us. Also, help us to work hard and efficiently in the other 6 available days so that we will be able to enjoy the benefits of rest when it is time to do that.” -Ezra
