Money: Why it Matters (Week 1)

Money: Why Does it Matter?

If I were to ask you what topic the Bible talks most about, what would you say?
Jesus talked more about money than he did Heaven and Hell combined. Eleven of the 39 parables He tells are about finances.
Why do you think the Bible talks about money so much?

Money is so important because it can reveal who we are.

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” -Matthew 6:19-21

What are some of your earliest memories related to money?
How do you earn money now? How do you spend it?
How would you describe your family’s financial situation?
Who manages money in your family? Is it discussed?
What financial goals or hopes do you have?
How many of you currently owe someone else money?

When you borrow money, you have debt. As you get older, you will face a lot of financial obstacles and choices, and your spending/earning habits can be shaped by how you view money now.
We live in a society today that tells us we “deserve” to have what we want and that we can “buy now and pay later.” What do you think about that?

Money is a frequently addressed topic in the Bible because God knew and knows how influential it can be. The choices you make now, and the habits you start practicing, will impact your financial future. Your finances will impact your living conditions, education, and most importantly, your relationships.

This topic is avoided a lot because it is seen as personal, uncomfortable, and controversial.

We want to spend the next few weeks talking to you guys about this serious topic because we think it is important to address now, while you can start healthy habits. Ultimately, our goal is to view money how GOD views money.
